Olive Squalane:
Isolated without chemicals from Olive Oil, squalane has been called Natures Facelift. This wonderful oil is said to be good for wrinkles, UV damage, chapped skin - an all around amazing additive. Odorless and colorless, squalane helps to carry other oils deeper into the tissue.

Macadamia Nut Oil:
Macadamia Nut Oil is said to act as a natural anti-inflammatory (perhaps due to its oleic acid content). Its possible anti-inflammatory action combined with its viscosity and slip make it a good candidate for massage applications

Borage Seed Oil:
Borage Seed Oil is a prized oil in skin care for its noteworthy essential fatty acid content, consisting primarily of the omega-6 EFA gamma linolenic acid.

Soap, Soap, and more SOAP!!!

We have been BUSY, BUSY, BUSY making SOAP!!

We at 5th Avenue Bath Co. have been super busy making new soaps. We have lots curing which will be ready in about another 3 weeks (beginning of February 2008). We took some photos of the process for you to enjoy!

In about 3-4 weeks (first week March 08),
we will have the following soaps posted in our web store:

Orange Patchouli
Ginger & Black Tea
Spiced Berry (black pepper and blackberry)
Raspberry Patchouli
Spearmint

In about 5-6 weeks (mid March 08), we will have the following soaps ready:
Patchouli
Mediterranean Fig
Green Tea & Jasmine

We will also be 'unleashing' our spa mineral soap bar in Mid March. Our Spa Mineral Soap Bar is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! We love this soap because it softens our skin, is cleansing, and best of all: salt is a great natural deodorizer. Our first Spa Mineral Bar is going to be available soon and it is a limited edition scent (SAKE); we guarantee this soap will fly off our shelves.
COLORANTS IN OUR SOAP:
We have been asked many times what we use to add color to some of our soaps. We use oxides, ultramarine pigments and clays for some of our soaps while others are 'naked' which means they stay the color of the butters/oils used.

Here is some info on the oxides, ultramarines and clays we use in many of our products:

• Oxides & ultramarine pigments are stable mineral colors; they are non-toxic and non-bleeding.

• Clays have been used for centuries for cosmetic use, and are present in almost all traditional beauty regimens. They exfoliate, clean and invigorate the skin while improving blood circulation. Clay has the ability to absorb excess oils, dirt and harmful toxins from the skin. Cosmetic clays are made up of different mineral contents and each clay type has a different effect on the skin. The high mineral content of clay rejuvenates the skin while the clay exfoliates and stimulates blood circulation to the skin. Regular use of clay facials will remove dead skin cells, improve circulation to the skin, remove debris from the pores and bring about a smooth healthy glow. Each clay has the ability to absorb toxins from the skin but they differ in their level of absorption. Clays can be used in facials, body powders, soaps, and as a natural colorant for soap, lotions, creams, bath salts and more.

We generally use three types of clays in our products:

• Bentonite Clay usually forms from weathering of volcanic ash, most often in the presence of water. It is a highly absorbent clay that pulls oils and toxins from the skin and is one of the best clays for making clay poultices. It is best suited for oily skin.
• Pink kaolin is a gentle clay, making it suitable for sensitive skin. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it. Pink kaolin clay does not draw oils from the skin and can therefore be used on dry skin types.
• White kaolin clay is the mildest of all clays. It is suitable for sensitive skin. It helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently exfoliating and cleansing it.
